It's simple. All the protesting: If there is a big spike within the next couple of weeks, then I predict another big spike in the fall. If there is only a bump as a result of the protesters hanging out in close proximity, then I predict no big increase in the fall.

@xenon said in Sit down: Iran is cheating!: @Larry I'll just repeat what I said twice already - but you haven't directly addressed. I don't think the federal government has enough power to be the driving force behind the "greatest 8 year period in American history". You think that: The Trump administration will go down in history as the greatest 8 year period in American history. You can still have power and not be the most important source of power. I'm aware that's what you think. I'm also aware that you are incorrect.

@Doctor-Phibes said in Self loathing among white liberals: Come to think of it, when people ask my race, I say 'I'm white, but not one of those American ones'. Well, OK, not in as many words. When people ask me my race, I say cyclocross. The Tour's for juicers and lycra bros.

First I thought it was a spoof or a joke, like the Onion faking a BLM list of demands, then I found that thing on BLM Portland's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=116229863447115 Look at the comments of befuddlement ("what does fossil fuel has to do with BLM") and objection ("I cannot get behind this")!

In real life if they try this after one gets hurt they’ll send along an accompanying police officer. In some jurisdictions they’ll call it something else, but basically it’ll be a police officer.

I have another dish I like that uses elbow macaroni. It's easy, and delicious. Brown a pound of ground beef, leaving it just a little chunky. Cook a few elbow macaroni noodles Al dente (not many) That's all the cooking you have to do. Add 2 boxes of beef broth 1 can of stewed tomatoes 1 can of corn 1 can of peas Heat for a few minutes, add the macaroni, salt and pepper to taste. A bit of sugar will knock the edge off the acid in the tomatoes. If you like a little kick, add Frank's hot sauce to taste. Sugar and hot sauce both.... yummy!

@Klaus said in If you had a job where they played the anthem at the start of the work day: Germans these days generally have very little patriotism and appreciation of symbols like flags or anthems, which is of course due to the destructive extreme forms of patriotism in the 20th century. I was present for a notable exception, Berlin 2006 when Germany won the 3rd place match in the World Cup. Lots of people driving around waving the flag, and much noted in the press the following days.

@bachophile said in British-isms: I noticed In Larson’s book on Winnie that a possible tea ration for the brits during the war was a hardship which could not be endured or expected of the people. Bloody right. Never mind not being able to go to the over-priced gym, or get a haircut/tattoo/piercing. NO FREAKING TEA!!!

Because I enjoy It's Only a Bill and all the other SHR music, that's also proof I am younger than my drivers license indicates, hence the search to determine my true age. You can see there's serious proof.

@89th said: I heard downtown Minneapolis 911 dispatchers are being taught how to respond to calls with “thoughts and prayers”. Heh. Heh, heh, heh, heh, heh, heh. Ha! Ha! HA! I'm with Rainman. Let 'em have what they want, see what happens. Can't you see it? Defrocked cops cruising slowly through streets littered with broken and moaning bodies and storefront window glass shards, loudspeaking things like, "Don't worry, we're not here to do police stuff. We're just here to send you our thoughts and prayers. "Let us know if you need us to do anything else."

They're on to a great idea. Start protesting, everything! Force the news media to hyperventilate as they try to sort the real from the nonsensical. Get a group to protest fishing, placards of "I Can't Breathe" or on a banner. Protest money spent and wasted on space exploration. The same "I can't breathe" signs could work there, as well. Protests against Viagra. The same signs will do I guess.

Yeah, Kincaid's right. But, tell ya what, not that long ago, Portland was a really great city. University, symphony, clubs, Theatre, Jake's Crawfish on friday nights, movie theatre on Broadway, just walking around with friends was fun, or cruising Broadway. Lots of young folks, families, safe and good times. George, you misunderstand. That railroad trip you took, that wasn't on a vintage train. That is Oregon's new high-speed rail. Pretty soon they will even install tracks, just like in Big Cities!

Yeah, that would be my luck. Jackpot!!! Then in a couple of weeks, I'm feet-up, they use the jackpot money to pay for my funeral, then find out there's not enough left over to pay the tax on the winnings, and on and on and on. Just forget it. Thanks Ax, you ruined everything. I'll take the suitcase out of my car. I'm not going.
